Early in 2009, poker was being heavily discussed and there was the potential to overturn previous legislation based on the fact that poker is a game of skill. Billy Murphy, www.bluefirepoker.com, was out to prove  the point that poker was in fact a game of skill. Thus, he decided to roll the dice and implement an Ultimate Marketing Gimmick….  Billy issued a challenge to President Obama, or any member of Congress by offering them $1,000,000 to beat one of thier pros in a game of poker.

“At the time of our campaign, legislation was being heavily discussed for online poker.  There had been a lot of talk about whether or not the game of poker was a game of skill, and if so, should be licensed and regulated. The reason we issued this was because if it was a game of all luck, they obviously would have taken the bet because they had nothing to lose, and if they didn’t accept, it would further prove the point of the side that knows poker is a game of skill.” - Billy Murphy

A match never went down, but it was a success as Fox News, among many other media picked up their story and got the word out about the issues and Blue Fire Poker. Big bluff, even biger marketing payout.
